NANA KWESI ESHUN SPEAKS ON SRC VETTING INCIDENCE

The incident that occurred on the early hours on Sunday morning during the KNUST SRC VETTING process is awful and a disgrace to the entire student body.

Such incidents paves way for management to interfere in student governance portraying the inept of student leadership. Treating SRC activities in this manner basically means collapsing of our bridge that leads us to our highest authority, the management.

The SRC is a respected mouthpiece to the numerous students in KNUST and for that matter activities conducted under its leadership should be treated with utmost respect. In situations like this, we force the management to compress the jurisdictions of the SRC by putting barriers on some operations and schemes it can exhibit.

As intellectuals, violence should not be part of our lifestyle irrespective of our indifferences on issues. With regards to elections, the best way of winning is not through violence, but rather, making your yourself and policies known to the students on campus, outside them and in the classrooms. Let us work our ways out to prove our competence and support for our candidates in this regard.

I urge and plead with the leadership of Unity and Katanga Hall to take necessary actions and help restore the dignity of the Halls and the SRC with due diligence. We believe, that together, we can bring back the breeze of peace to the environment we find ourselves. No one can help us the students except ourselves, and it can simply be done by the leadership of the SRC and all units thereof.

"Nothing good ever comes of VIOLENCE" - Martin Luther.

Let peace prevail, for our RESPECT and DIGNITY is at stake.

We should all know that we have a REPUTATION to protect.
